This winter I split my time between the Netherlands and the states. Yeah I’m cool, I call it the states. Anyway, I spent the first little bit of it abroad and the rest here at home. Well, at least what I’ll call home for the next two months.
I was lucky enough to get to celebrate two winter festivities, and with both families. Sinterklaas with my family in the Netherlands, and Christmas with my family here. I don’t know when I’ll be able to find that again so I count my lucky stars that I got the best of both worlds this year.
And now that I’m back in a long distance relationship, I hates it. It’s the worst. Those 2 and a half months I had next to Marcel were the best, and I can’t wait to spend the next forever with him. (Also, I wrote out the number because in Dutchieland it’s written out 2,5 and in Gringoland it’s 2.5)
We’re already planning out next trip to Gringoland, but this time with the whole Dutchie family. It’ll be like My Big Fat Greek Wedding, except Mexican, and you know, without the wedding. Hmm… maybe that wasn’t the best example. Anyway, we’re aiming to be back summer 2016, especially since my abuelita turns 80 this next year. But I swear she doesn’t look a day over 60.
It’ll be weird spending all the holidays in the Netherlands next year, but it’ll be cool having the 3 Christmas days. Yeah, they get THREE days. We barely get one.
Also, I heard New Years’ is pretty wicked in the Netherlands. Fireworks and a traditional dip in the subzero North Sea, which I’ve heard is something Marcel has always wanted to do.
Anyway, as I start preparing my paperwork for immigration I’ll keep you guys posted, because apparently I have some avid readers who are quite upset that I stopped posting. SORRY! I’ll try to keep it up.
And happy holidays everyone!
